Hampton 242 Grain Roller Mill

Grain roller milling is the traditional method of preparing cereals and fodder for on-farm consumption by livestock. Dairy Cattle cannot digest the whole grain and feeding it unmilled results in most of the grain being lost in the dung. Grinding grain allows almost complete digestion, however if it is ground too fine cows will refuse to eat it.

Getting the right sized grain which appeals to cows is critical as it is well known in dairy circles that crushed forage has a positive effect on their digestive process and leads to an increase in the protein content of the milk. Also, because the adhesive affect of crushed forage in the respiratory tract is considerably less than that of fine, ground cereals, it results in improved animal comfort and well-being. This knowledge has driven the increase in the popularity of using crushed grain feed as a mainstay and go-to feed choice for more and more dairy operations.

Our grain roller mills roll the grain which reduces the particle size of the grains, this has been proven to be more easily digested by cows than what hammer mill feed production methods provide. In fact the farmers which use our grain roller mill are quite vocal in their belief that it is the best value for money grain roller mill available in New Zealand.

The Hampton 242 Grain Roller Mill

We have been designing, improving, manufacturing and distributing our grain roller mills for more than 10 years. It was especially crafted from the ground up to provide a heavy duty, efficient and high volume grain roller mill to meet the demand for more sophisticated feed options in the burgeoning NZ Dairy sector.

Our grain roller mill has adjustable tension springs, which provides the ability to produce a range of rolled or flattened grains at a rate of up to six tonnes per hour. The robustness afforded by 10-16mm steel construction and specially formulated cast iron wheels, means the Hampton 242 has been installed as the engine of many high volume grain feed systems across the country.

We believe that by constantly talking with our customers about their on-farm operations and requirements, what they are trying to achieve and what they need from our Hampton Grain roller mill, we can always stay one step ahead - it's this approach that gives our farmers their competitive advantage.

This video clip shows two Hampton 242 Roller Mills positioned under a hopper at Portside Logistics, Rolleston.  The first mill was installed 8 - 9 months ago and was positioned under a hopper that was manufactured by Geoff Hampton Engineering Ltd.  Recently we have installed a second mill under the hopper.  Both mills are producing an excellent sample of rolled barley.  With both mills running they are producing over 12 tonne per hour.  Portside supply CRT and other clients throughout Canterbury with rolled barley.

What our farmers say

"I can tell you that, if I had to go out today and get another mill, it would definitely be a Hampton 242’.

As a farmer, looking to improve the returns we get from our operation then obviously feed is a critical component of our overall success. From what I see on the farms I service, the Hampton mill consistently delivers thoroughly flattened kernels without any significant dust. Virtually no grain comes through in the dung and cows' acceptance of the rolled feed is excellent. That puts it a step ahead of the competition.

As a consultant to the dairy industry across New Zealand, we know that our clients too have feed in their cross hairs and are looking to gain sustainable advantages. With the commodity prices in our favour, rolled cereal, and the ability to control the exactness of the crush, combined with the capability of producing up to 6 tonnes per hour is something that we need, given the increasing scale of our businesses, increasing demand for our product and our need to improve profitability.

I believe that there is a need for our industry to be better prepared for the future and getting better at improving feed system technology”.
