Effluent Management

Effluent movement from farms can cause water pollution and poor water quality in local catchments. It can transfer animal disease, subsequently making streams unfit for drinking and also depleting the oxygen in them. This can result in a reduction in both fish and plant populations, and it can also contribute to blue-green algal blooms forming.

That being said, it is important to remember that effluent contains valuable nutrients, organic matter and water, therefore it is good farming practise to maximise your production by using it on your property and minimising the amount of waste you create.

Good planning of a new or upgraded effluent system will allow you more efficient use of these nutrients and your water.

As a best practice farmer you need your effluent system to:

  • cope with the rotary operating at capacity
  • maximise the use of the nutrients available in the effluent
  • minimise the amount of water used to clean the shed and yard

When you are able to apply effluent at the right time, in the correct quantity, with a properly designed system to compliment the mirco environment on your farm, you can reduce the need to purchase expensive "brought-in" fertiliser.

We specialise in all areas of effluent management within your dairy or farming operation and we appreciate and understand the need to create a win-win in effective effluent management and farm worker safety. Dirty dairying is a dirty word for a reason and the impact goes far beyond the farm gate.
